Context & ChallengeTucked into the cliffs of Brisbane’s newest riverside precinct, The Fantauzzo marked the seventh addition to the Art Series Hotels collection. Inspired by acclaimed portrait artist and Archibald Prize winner Vincent Fantauzzo, the hotel’s identity set out to fuse the overarching Art Series brand ethos of ‘unique and inspired experiences’ with sleek architecture and the artist’s magnetic body of work. The goal? To create a memorable, immersive Fantauzzo brand experience that went beyond art on the walls — without ever overpowering the work itself.

The Brand NarrativeTo create a brand that truly reflects the artist, we first had to understand the artist himself. Vincent Fantauzzo is known for his bold, hyper-realistic portraits that capture both striking detail and emotional depth. His work often plays with themes of identity and vulnerability, using dramatic lighting and layered, cinematic compositions to create a strong sense of presence. His portraits — often of well-known faces — pull you in with their raw energy and psychological edge.

The Brand PropositionEvery Art Series Hotel is built around a central brand essence—an idea that captures the spirit of the artist and shapes the guest experience. For The Fantauzzo, that essence is The Art of Candid Moments — a reflection of the raw intimacy found in Vincent Fantauzzo’s work. It also serves as a guest proposition, inviting spontaneity, genuine connections, and a series of candid, memorable moments.

The Visual IdentityThe brand never visually competes with the portraits, instead complementing it with a candid, sleek aesthetic that lets the artwork take centre stage. The bold and raw tone of voice enhances the visual communication, turning every touchpoint into an opportunity for genuine guest engagement. Simple typography, strong grids, and a signature horizontal line echo the clean architecture and striking lighting features, creating a connected and memorable look.

Results

The hotel was successfully acquired by Crystalbrook Collection for approx. $75 million, marking one of the first major hotel sales in Australia during COVID. Due to the acquisition it underwent a name change, but retained its brand core and equity.
